The Reverend Francis J. Bellamy (1855-1931) was the aurthor of the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. A Baptist minister, he was a member of Little Falls Lodge 181 in New York. In 1955, The Order of the Eastern Star erected a tablet to honor his memory at its home in Oriskany, NY. It is usually a surprise to most to learn Bellamy, who authored the pledge for a country that is a hallmark of free enterprise and capitalism, was also a committed and dedicated socialist.
